Solar Photovoltaic Panels

Solar Photovoltaic Panels

What are Solar Photovoltaic Panels and how do they work?

Solar Photovoltaic Panels (PV) are panels which absorb sunlight and convert this sunlight into
electricity. PV panels are made up of semi conducting materials in most cases silicon. When the sun
shines on these layers of silicon the suns radiation is converted into electricity.

Domestic PV systems are usually up to 4KWp. PV systems work best in direct sunlight however still
produce a considerable amount of electricity even on a cloudy day.

Solar PV systems can save a household a vast amount off the electricity bill. Effeciency depends on
the way and time of day the electricity is used. Electricity storage batteries can also be installed
alongside the PV system so that it can be used during the night or on days when there is less
electricity produced.

Solar PV lowers a homes carbon footprint. A systems lifespan is upward of 20 years with minimal to
no maintenance costs.
